Hurricane Supply List

Hurricane season runs June 1st through November 30th. Hurricane is an intense tropical weather system of strong thunderstorms with and strong winds. It can cause property damage and floods. You can lose electricity. Have enough emergency supplies to last for at least three days (72 hours). I believe it is better to be over-prepared rather then under-prepared. At a minimum, be sure to include in your hurricane supply kit:

Household Supplies:

  • Flashlight
  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
  • Battery powered flashlight
  • Disposable plates and utensils
  • Manual can opener
  • Extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Medications (7-day supply) and medical items (hearing aids with extra batteries, contact lenses, syringe, cane)
  • Personal hygiene items ( toilet paper, wipes, soap,wipes, disinfectant)
  • Large plastic garbage bags
  • Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
  • Cell phone with charger
  • Family and emergency contact information
  • Extra cash
  • Unscented bleach
  • Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
  • Tools/supplies for securing your home (including duct tape,tarp and rope)
  • Extra set of car keys and house keys
  • Extra clothing, hat and sturdy shoes, rain gear.
  • Extra blankets and pillows
  • Insect repellent and sunscreen
  • Portable or standby generator

Food (at least 3 day supply of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food)

  • Water- one gallon per person per day
  • Fruit juice
  • Nuts and dried fruit
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Canned meat or fish
  • Canned evaporated milk
