What to Do With an Old U.S. Flag in Broward County, FL

U.S. Flag
U.S. Flag on November11, Veterans Day

Yesterday, November 11th,  was Veterans Day.It is an official United States public holiday observed annually. This day is to honor our military veterans, who served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans. Veterans Day is diffrent from Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May. Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service

If you fly an U.S. flag at your house, you should remeber, that once the flag is in bad condition and isn’t proper to fly, you can’t just throw it away. Section 8k of the Flag Code states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

It is possible to contact your local VFW Chapter and ask them for help properly disposing of your flag. Or you can contact your local Elks Lodge , the American Legion, or the Knights of Columbus

When a flag is worn, torned, ripped beyond repair, it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of U.S., it should be retired and disposed of properly. Broward County is participating in this program as part of a national campaign to support flag etiquette to ensure a dignified retirement for the U.S. flag. More info here.

Blooming orchid

Happy Mother’s Day to mothers everywhere – birth mothers, adoptive and foster mothers.

Lets not forget about the grandmothers who are raising their grandchildren. There are single dads who are raising children, so they are doing mom’s and dad’s role.

Orchids to all of you for the love you give each and every day!

But to me, Mother’s Day is every day.

Love, Brigita

Wishing you a very Happy Easter!

May this Easter bring you all together for a great celebration  with lots of joy, laughter, happiness, and of course chocolate.

Enjoy this beautiful holiday with your loved ones.

But remember, that today is also an April Fools Day. So watch out for Easter Bunny to play some tricks on you.

When Easter Falls on April Fools’ Day…

When Easter Falls on April Fools' Day in 2018
When Easter falls on April Fools’ Day in 2018

Do not let the joke be on you this Sunday.

This coming Sunday will be April’s 1st, which is called April’s Fools Day. This Sunday also will be Christian holiday Easter.

I did some search online, and found out that last time Easter and April Fools’ Day were on the same day in the 1956. That was way before my time. Next time Easter will be on April 1st in 2029, next time 2040. And the next one will not be until 2108.

Watch out for Easter Bunny to play a few prank jokes on you.
