Happy Pi Day!

Today is March 14th, which is also 3/14. It is the day to celebrate the Pi Day.

Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi is a constant number, meaning that for all circles of any size, Pi will be the same, which is approximately 3.14159.

Pi Day is an opportunity for math fanatics to talk to their friends and family about math, to recite the infinite digits of Pi. And, of course, today is reason to eat Pie.

What to Do With an Old U.S. Flag in Broward County, FL

U.S. Flag
U.S. Flag on November11, Veterans Day

Yesterday, November 11th,  was Veterans Day.It is an official United States public holiday observed annually. This day is to honor our military veterans, who served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans. Veterans Day is diffrent from Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May. Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service

If you fly an U.S. flag at your house, you should remeber, that once the flag is in bad condition and isn’t proper to fly, you can’t just throw it away. Section 8k of the Flag Code states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

It is possible to contact your local VFW Chapter and ask them for help properly disposing of your flag. Or you can contact your local Elks Lodge , the American Legion, or the Knights of Columbus

When a flag is worn, torned, ripped beyond repair, it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of U.S., it should be retired and disposed of properly. Broward County is participating in this program as part of a national campaign to support flag etiquette to ensure a dignified retirement for the U.S. flag. More info here.

When Does Time Change in November 2018?

Time change November 4,2018

It is that time of the year again when clocks are turned back to gain an extra hour of sleep. Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends at 2 a.m. on this Sunday, November 4th, in 2018.

Daylight Saving Time begins the second Sunday in March each year, moving clocks forward one hour so that we have more daylight at the end of the day. Hawaii and most of Arizona are excluded from Daylight Saving Time, and stay on standard time year-round. But the rest of the U.S. follows Daylight Saving Time and change the time two times a year.

Enjoy the extra hour of sleep!
